The moment you've all been waiting for.

Drum roll please. . . .

It is finally here! (the blog) And we are finally here!(in Alaska)

I'd like to explain our somewhat self-explanatory blog title. While trying desperately for weeks to try to think of a cool, simple, and "totally us" blog title that could sum up all the so many things we want to say on here, I finally stumbled upon the phrase . . .

"back to the land"

It was a movement, nay, a migration in the 60's and 70's of people leaving the cities and returning to rural areas to live off the land. Turns out it is a recurring pattern in civilizations going as far back as the Hellenistic era.

Now, we aren't trying to homestead in the Yukon and leave ALL of civilization behind, but like many other young, nature-loving and eco-conscious people we are attempting to enrich our lives and the lives around us by being nicer to mother earth.

Yeah, I get it, "going green" is trendy.

But Return to the Land is much more than just recycling and turning your lights off.
It's about hunting and fishing to obtain your own meat and stop eating hormone injected yard birds.
It's about making your own bread and milk (from almonds, yum!) and stop buying enriched and sugar-filled packages.
It's about getting off the couch and hiking a mountain and watching the clouds instead.

Well, at least that is our attempt, we are not perfect, but we are on a quest to become better and healthier human beings!

So all of that, as well as Austin's blossoming fishing career, finally convinced us to abandon the deserts of Arizona and head North. . . to Alaska!!!!
